Transformational Functional Fitness for Y Members

Welcome to the Pleasant Hill Y CrossFit. We offer high-level coaching and comprehensive programming with the most versatile amenities in the East Bay area.

CrossFit is a training program structured around ten components of fitness: strength training, stamina, endurance, accuracy, power, agility, balance, speed, coordination and flexibility, all applied in a challenging Workout of the Day (WODs). CrossFit involves constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity.

Constantly Varied: CrossFit programming strategically varies the workout stimulus so that you are always prepared for any and all physical tasks as well as never getting bored.

Functional Movement: Have you ever dropped something and had to pick it up off the floor? Sat down on the couch and had to stand up again? Put an item up on a high shelf? If you answered yes, you have performed deadlifts, squats, and shoulder presses. We train these movements because they are the functional movements life demands.

High Intensity: Whether your goal is to have more energy, get stronger or sleep better, intensity is the best way to get there. Our focus is moving well with consistency and then ramping up the intensity. Intensity is relative meaning we help individualize each workout to you and within the limits of your own physical and psychological capacity.

All WODs can be modified and are appropriate for all fitness levels.

“In our gyms we don’t face mirrors, we face each other.
We don’t celebrate aesthetics and swagger, but rather showing up and humbly putting in the work.
We share in the challenge of doing hard things because we know it makes us better humans in every way, on every level.”
– Nicole Carroll

Beyond physics and fitness, CrossFit is unlike any other gym experience with our unique focus on building community.

CrossFit at the Y

CrossFit at the Y is supportive, accessible, and efficiently combines the most effective training methods in Weightlifting, Gymnastics and Cardio.

Pleasant Hill CrossFit’s facility is unlike any other CrossFit gym – it is located in the Pleasant Hill YMCA, being the first, and only CrossFit affiliate to be part of a YMCA on the West Coast.

Our facility is outfitted with both, an indoor, and outdoor rig system with more pull-up bars and squat racks that you can imagine. Rowing machines, Echo Assault Bikes, bumper plates, rings, free weights, kettle bells, jump ropes, ghd, sandbags, med balls and slam balls. Our locker rooms have showers and lockers, and free WiFi.  Perhaps most importantly, we have plenty of parking.

Our Classes

These are traditional CrossFit classes that include a skill-based warm-up, skill or strength training, the Workout of the Day (or “WOD”), and mobility work. The workouts can always be scaled so that new athletes can workout alongside veteran athletes. On some days, the WOD will be a 10-20 minute metabolic conditioning workout that combines several movements or exercises that are grouped into sets and either completed for time or in as many rounds a possible (“AMRAP”). On other days, the class will focus on a strength piece (like a 1 rep max deadlift) followed by a shorter metabolic conditioning “finisher” workout.

Current Group Class Schedule:

Monday - Friday: 7am-8am

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 5:30pm-6:30pm

Private Coaching is an amazingly effective and efficient way to achieve your individual fitness goals. Your coach will work with you to identify and clarify your fitness goals, assess your movement, and design a program specifically targeted at improving your deficiencies and optimizing your strengths, thereby enabling you to achieve your goals as quickly as possible. Private coaching is recommended if you have been sedentary for a long period of time, are training for a specific sport or event, have significant health limitations, or just prefer the additional attention and accountability.

The CrossFit Program

CrossFit is characterized by safe, effective exercise and sound nutrition. CrossFit can be used to accomplish any goal, from improved health to weight loss to better performance. The program works for everyone—people who are just starting out and people who have trained for years.

The Workouts:
The magic is in the movements. Workouts are different every day and modified to help each athlete achieve his or her goals. CrossFit workouts can be adapted for people at any age and level of fitness.

The Lifestyle:
Off the carbs, off the couch. The CrossFit lifestyle—a combination of diet and exercise—is the key to fitness and long-term health.

The Community:
Your support network. With your built-in Y community plus 15,000 CrossFit affiliates around the world, there's no shortage of people who encourage and motivate each other in every class as they work toward their goals.
