Summer Camp Programs & Schedules

Summer at Camp Loma Mar is designed to meet campers where they are and help them grow through adventure, community, and fun. Campers are grouped into villages by age so activities are age-appropriate and friendships can flourish. Each village becomes a close-knit community where campers live, eat, and play together under the guidance of caring staff.

A sample daily schedule includes a balance of structured activities, free choice, and community time. Mornings and afternoons are filled with activity blocks that might include archery, hiking, climbing, swimming, or creative arts. Quiet Hour after lunch gives campers a chance to recharge, while evenings bring all-camp events like campfires, Color Chaos, and outdoor movies under the stars.

Cubs: Entering Grades 2-5

For our youngest summer camp group, our top priority is creating a safe, comfortable, and fun camping experience for each and every kid. Cabin groups work together on friendship, discovery, and new outdoor activities.

Bobcats: Entering Grades 6-8

Our most energetic campers enjoy a true outdoor adventure with a focus on building skills and self-confidence. The Bobcat village is designed to give our summer campers more independence and decision-making opportunities while being guided by our trained staff.

Mountain Lions: Entering Grades 9-11

The Mountain Lion Village is an exciting opportunity for teens to experience the best of what Camp Loma Mar has to offer via a customized program structure designed (in part) by the campers themselves! At the beginning of the week, guided by their counselors, they will develop the schedule for the week based on their interests. By giving the campers input as to what their experience will be, they'll not only gain confidence and independence but also learn about leadership and community.

Gender Expansive Cabin: Entering Grades 2-8

In order to offer a gender-identify affirming experience for all campers, we offer a cabin for campers who feel more comfortable with this option. This cabin group's experience will be no different than every other cabin's experience. Any camper entering 2nd grade through 8th grade may sign up for this option.

LIT (Leaders in Training): Entering Grades 10-11

Learn what makes a great leader! The LIT program is spent developing skills essential to become a leader, building self-confidence, learning to work as a team, planning activities and enhancing kid skills. LIT's plan & deliver activities for kids, gain valuable hands-on experience shadowing camp staff, and develop a deep understanding of the inner workings of an overnight camp. The program also makes time for camp fun like the climbing tower, swimming, campfires, and so much more.

CA (Camp Assistant): Entering Grade 12

The CA program is for rising 12th graders that would like to prepare for working in an overnight camp.  We will train CAs in child development and child abuse prevention, planning/delivering activities for kids, gain valuable hands-on experience shadowing camp staff, and develop a deep understanding of the inner workings of an overnight camp. Application and an interview are both required.

Pick Your Adventure (PYA)

One of the most unique parts of Camp Loma Mar is Pick Your Adventure, or PYA. This special time in the day allows campers to choose their own activities — whether that’s archery, climbing, crafts, or exploring the outdoors.

PYA gives campers more than just variety: it encourages them to step outside their comfort zone and try something new; helps them connect with peers beyond their cabin groups, building friendships across camp; and allows them to develop proficiency and confidence in activities they enjoy most.

By making their own choices, campers learn independence while still being supported by caring staff. PYA is often where campers discover new passions, build resilience, and gain the confidence that carries far beyond summer.
