MRB Girl Reading

Y-Kids Child Care Program

Because our preschool programs are funded through the California Department of Education (CDE), families must qualify to receive state-subsidized childcare services to participate.

At E M Downer, we understand that young children enter preschool with a sense of wonder and a love of learning. They have an insatiable appetite for knowledge when they have learning experiences that are engaging and enjoyable. Our pre-school programs are designed to create a positive experience that helps our students feel competent and confident. Our programs include a focus upon:

Social Development:

Participating in groups, learning responsible behavior (such as sharing), respecting differences and expressing feelings appropriately.

Cognitive Development:

Experience with math and science: observing, exploring and experimenting, building pre-reading and writing skills, fostering imagination and creativity.

Math Concepts:

Through games and activities meaning is given to concepts such as: numbers, relational concepts and classification skills that lead to problem solving.

Physical Development:

Developing large and small muscle skills, increasing body awareness, improving hand-eye coordination and perceptual skills, exploring rhythm and movement.

Artistic Expression:

Through the creation of art (drawing, painting, dancing, creating music and more) self-expression and appreciation of the arts develops.

Emotional Development:

Promoting positive self-image, fostering cooperation, developing independence, initiative and trust.

Language Skills:

Listening, speaking and following directions.

We provide opportunities for children to engage in a variety of individual and group activities that promote individual growth and we work closely with parents to make sure their children are making progress and reaching the right goals for them. Please check out our program locations below and contact us directly at wccinfo@ymcaeastbay.org for specific enrollment information.
