We've launched a brand new Fitness Coaching program that's included in all memberships. No matter where you are in your fitness journey, our foundational training program focuses on achieving results for YOU.

We take pride in our diverse membership and know that every member has different interests, time commitments, aspirations, and even limitations – that's why our Fitness Coaching program is inclusive and accessible to every member.

Instead of a basic facility rundown, our new Fitness Coaching Program will focus on four key fitness foundations: Cardio, Circuit, Bodyweight, and Weightlifting. Each session will concentrate on one fitness foundation and will establish a baseline and framework for you to achieve the FITTEST YOU.

Cardio Foundation

Cardiovascular exercise is important to increase aerobic capacity and endurance. Your cardio experience will be aimed at your specific fitness goals, but may include activities like Elliptical, Treadmill, Climb/StepMill, Recumbant Bike, Concept II Rower, and Nu-Step.

Circuit Foundation

When you master the five core circuit machines, you can increase your strength and improve your muscle tone. Our wide variety of push and pull machines can provide an effective and balanced full-body workout. Expect to use the Leg Press, Lat Pulldown, Chest Press, Shoulder Press, and more.

Bodyweight Foundation

Using only the weight of your own body, mastering the six core bodyweight exercises will increase your strength and improve your muscle tone. Mastering movements like squats, lunges, push-ups, and planks will provide you with a balanced and full-body workout.

Weightlifting Foundation

Increase your strength, develop strong bones, and preserve your muscle mass with weightlifting. Your weightlifting foundation will vary based on your goals and abilities, but we will aim to cover deadlifts, back squats, bench press, and TRX Row.

Why is this Important?

Advancing health and fostering healthy communities is a cornerstone of the Y Mission. Currently, in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, there is a 22% rate of adult obesity and a 17% rate of sedentarism.

And across the United States, a staggering 40% of deaths are related to chronic disease / sedentarism, and 50% of adults stop exercising 30 days after they begin.

We want to directly impact the health of our East Bay community by increasing the fitness of every member, and lowering the rate of obesity, pre-diabetes, and chronic disease.
