Job Description
 
Position Title:   Assistant Director – CILT Program
Reports To:       Camp Director
Job Classification: Non-Exempt – Seasonal/Temporary
 
General Functions: To develop and manage the Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) program and to assist camp leadership team in the operation of the YMCA Camp Ravencliff summer program.
 
 Qualifications:
·        At least twenty-one years of age
·        High school diploma or GED required, some college preferred
·        Experience as a cabin leader preferred, other youth leadership experience may be substituted.
·        2 to 5 years experience working with teens
·        Proven experience in facilitation skills and group development and management practices
·        Demonstrated ability and comfort level speaking, singing and performing skits in front of large groups
·        Ability to relate to one’s peers effectively
·        Ability to make critical decisions without direct supervision when necessary
·        Strong understanding of risk management practices to ensure a safe program
·        Character values in line with the YMCA core values
·        Flexibility and maturity, with ability to accept supervision including constructive feedback
·        YMCA Lifeguard certification or Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification (which includes First Aid and CPR for the Pro) required prior to start of camp.
·        Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
 
SpecificResponsibilities:
·        Primarily responsible for the development and management of the CILT program which includes implementing structured curriculum which focuses on development of teamwork and leadership skills among CILT group, as well as specific skill development for youth leadership.
·        Implement the above through a combination of group and one-on-one meetings with program participants.
·        Discuss participant’s progress regularly with their cabin leaders and work with cabin leaders to help facilitate a positive cabin experience for CILT participants.
·        Supervise CILTs to effectively implement critical camp logistics support including, but not limited to: transition day logistics and luggage transportation; dishes procedures that follow health department expectations; meal and overnighter preparation on overnighter departure day. 
·        Assist Camp Director and Assistant Director with administration of camp program as needed and available. This may include, but is not limited to, assisting with incident/situation management; leading camp activities; planning for upcoming events and needs; addressing facility needs that arise, and the like.
·        Participate as part of the directing team by supporting policy and program decisions, and make decisions in the camp director’s/assistant director’s absence that would be in line with risk management concerns and program goals.
·        Work to accomplish program goals at all times
·        Assist with planning and leadership of staff training for program staff
·        Interpret the rules, policies, and traditions of the camp and communicate that information to staff and participants
·        Serve as a good role model, in personal language, appearance, communication skills, appropriate behavior, and health habits
·        Transport and chaperone CILT’s on “in-town” days
·        Other duties as assigned
 
Essential Functions:
·        Be physically able to perform all duties as required
·        Be able to communicate verbally with campers and staff
·        Have visual ability to recognize hazards in the camp setting and the auditory ability to respond appropriately to those hazards
·        Be able to observe staff behavior in daily camp life, to respond to health and safety concerns, and to deal appropriately with improper behavior
 
Physical Requirements:
·        Ability to lift of to 25lbs as necessary.
·        Ability to safely maneuver on uneven ground in a camp environment which has significant elevation changes between program and cabin areas.
 
Effect on End Results:
This position is critical to the operation of a program that develops many of camp’s future leaders.  The end result will be that the CILT program runs smoothly, based on an established curriculum, participants have an enjoyable and enriching experience, and graduate the program with the skills necessary to move into leadership positions.
 
Weekly salary  $375-450/week depending on experience.  $10/hour for any pre/post season work that might be required.  Position open until filled.  The summer season is 6 weeks, June 26-Aug. 8. EOE
