Job Description
Position Title: Assistant Director –Program
Reports To: Executive Director
Job Classification: Non-Exempt – Seasonal/Temporary
General Functions: To work closely with the Executive Director to assist with planning, program development and implementation for the summer camp program which includes staff and operational support and to assist camp leadership team in the operation of the YMCA Camp Ravencliff summer program.
Qualifications:
· At least twenty-one years of age
· High school diploma or GED required, some college preferred
· Minimum 3 years experience as a cabin leader in a residential camp setting.
· Proven experience in facilitation skills and group development and management practices
· Demonstrated ability and comfort level speaking, singing and performing skits in front of large groups
· Ability to relate to one’s peers effectively
· Ability to make critical decisions without direct supervision when necessary
· Strong understanding of risk management practices to ensure a safe program
· Character values in line with the YMCA core values
· Flexibility and maturity, with ability to accept supervision including constructive feedback
· YMCA Lifeguard certification or Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification (which includes First Aid and CPR for the Pro) required prior to start of camp.
· Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
SpecificResponsibilities:
· Work alongside the Camp Director to administer program to ensure program goals are met, evidenced by improved camper survey responses and increased retention rate of participants in the program and in staff positions.
· Assist the Executive Director with management of camp as directed. This may include, but is not limited to, assisting with incident/situation management; planning for upcoming events and needs; addressing facility needs that arise, and the like.
· Serve as liaison to the program staff, providing support and resources as needed, while allowing them to grow and develop independently.
· Schedule staff to meet program needs
· Participate as part of the directing team by supporting policy and program decisions, and make decisions in the Executive Director’s absence that would be in line with risk management concerns and program goals.
· Assist with administrative functions of camp as directed, including payroll, ordering, transportation management, parent communication, transition day logistics, etc.
· Work to accomplish program goals at all times
· Assist with planning and leadership of staff training for program staff
· Interpret the rules, policies, and traditions of the camp and communicate that information to staff and participants
· Serve as a good role model, with a focus on staff, in personal language, appearance, communication skills, appropriate behavior, and health habits
· Other duties as assigned
Essential Functions:
· Be physically able to perform all duties as required
· Be able to communicate verbally with campers and staff
· Have visual ability to recognize hazards in the camp setting and the auditory ability to respond appropriately to those hazards
· Be able to observe staff behavior in daily camp life, to respond to health and safety concerns, and to deal appropriately with improper behavior
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift of to 25lbs as necessary.
· Ability to safely maneuver on uneven ground in a camp environment which has significant elevation changes between program and cabin areas.
Effect on End Results:
This position is critical to ensuring the continued quality of the Ravencliff program. The end result will be that camper and parent satisfaction ratings continue to improve and that camper enrollment continues to grow.
Weekly salary $375-450 depending on experience. $12/hour for any pre/post season work that might be required. Position open until filled. The summer season is 6 weeks, June 26-Aug. 8. EOE
