Health & Fitness Director – Hilltop Family YMCA
Richmond, CA (San Francisco Bay Area – East Bay 8 miles north of Berkeley)
The Hilltop Family YMCA is located in the beautiful Hilltop area of Richmond, CA. Our weather is awesome – summers are warm and sunny with a cool breeze off the Bay, winters are mild, and spring and fall are perfect for outdoor activities (and living expenses are the lowest in the Bay Area.) We just finished a major remodel – we now have a beautiful cardio room, a fantastic weight room and three wonderful group exercise studios. We’re looking for a member oriented Health & Fitness Director to lead Group Exercise, Fitness Coaches and Personal Trainers.
Qualifications
- Related coursework in physical education or equivalent, and certification as a fitness/group exercise instructor. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum one year related experience in health and fitness programs and supervision. Skill in program development, planning, implementation, and administration of health and fitness programs.
- Excellent communication, member service and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with people of varying ages and backgrounds.
- First Aid, CPR, and group exercise certifications required. An ability to become a trainer in First Aid, CPR, and AED along with YMCA fitness/group classes as required.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and ability to become skilled at Publisher or another such program.
- Strength and agility to demonstrate use of equipment and programs with the ability to lift up to 40 lb dumbbells.
Job Segments:
- Develop, lead, and direct health and fitness programs that meet Association standards and promote growing member participation/retention. Continuously develop both traditional and innovative programs to meet changing demands, standards, and target groups.
- Hire, train, supervise, and manage fitness and group exercise staff and volunteers. Maintain staff communication, training, and performance standards to ensure safe, quality programs, and low turnover.
- Fully implement Engage/Connect initiative with Group Exercise and Fitness Floor staff. This is a new training program designed to increase relationship development with members resulting in increased member retention.
- Prepare and manage annual budget for program areas to meet financial objectives.
- Actively promote member involvement and volunteerism in Health and fitness programs. Participate in the annual Partnership in Youth fund raising campaign and volunteer committees as assigned. Develop and maintain effective working relationships within the community.
- Train staff and deliver programs in ways that provide excellent service to members and guests at all times. Demonstrate the “Character Counts” values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
- Staff liaison to the Hilltop Fitness Committee, a Committee created by the Board of Managers in the fall of 2007.
- As Wellness Coordinator: Lead and manage the Hilltop Personal Training Program. Responsibilities include hiring, retaining and supervising all personal trainers as well as matching members to trainers so that members are satisfied. Responsibilities also include meeting the budget and supervising the Lead Personal Trainer.
- As Wellness Coordinator: Lead and manage the Hilltop YMCA Wellness Program. Responsibilities include monthly publications Wellness Newsletter and the Wellness E-Mail, monthly free Wellness Seminars, monthly pay Wellness Clinics, Boot Camp, Yoga Series, and metabolic testing.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Health and Wellness Director or Executive Director of the branch.
Salary – Based on Experience
$35,000 - $40,000
