Youth Basketball · Downtown Oakland YMCA

youth basketballYouth basketball at Downtown Oakland YMCA is a fun and exciting way for kids ages 3-13 to make new friends and stay active.

Got game? Hit the hardwoods with the folks who invented the game - the YMCA! did you know basketball was invented in 1891 at the International YMCA Training School? One of the teachers, James Naismith, was given the challenge of creating a game that could be played indoors during the cold winter months. Hanging simple peach baskets and using a soccer ball, Naismith created the game of basketball and wrote the first 13 rules of the games.

Youth Basketball Clinics

Our basketball clinics are designed to teach individual skill development and teamwork. Players are encouraged to improve their skills through in-house scrimmage games and games with other local YMCAs. Teams at grade levels 2-3, 4-6 and 6-8 will play games against other YMCA's and recreational teams. Games are held at the Downtown Oakland YMCA and various off-site locations.
