Downtown Oakland YMCA Day Camps offer children positive developmental experiences and encourages them to forge bonds with each other and with staff while building confidence through skill-building activities suited to their age. Day campers are able to explore creativity, teamwork and leadership in a wide range of physically active programs that influence lifelong healthy living. Today, day camp is more vital than ever, with an increased emphasis on child safety, learning traditions, personal values and social skills.

Our camp is an exciting, safe community for your children to explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills and make lasting friendships and memories. Swimming, art & crafts, group games and exciting tips will pack the Summer day with unforgettable experiences for campers of all ages.

Registration Now Open!

A $25.00 non transferable and non refundable deposit per child for each week will reserve their space in camp. All camp registration and payment must be made two weeks before the start of each session or the deposit will be forfeited and the reservation cancelled.

Download the Financial Assistance Application (printed forms available at the Membership Desk) and bring it, along with the required support documents, in-person to the Downtown Oakland YMCA by May 5 to apply.

Specialty Day Camps


Splash Camp

We welcome children to swim, play and learn aquatic safety habits. Campers enjoy a 30 minutes swim lesson and 30-minutes recreational swim daily in our indoor heated pool. Lessons are taught by our YMCA swim instructors.

STEM Challenge using LEGO®    

Power on your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO®! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as Catapults, Pneumatic Cranes, Arch Bridges, and Battletracks! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. An experienced instructor will challenge new and returning students to engineer at the next level.

Intro to STEM using LEGO®  

Tap into your imagination with tens of thousands of LEGO®! Build engineer- designed projects such as Boats, Snowmobiles, Catapults, and Merry-Go-Rounds. Then use special pieces to create your own unique design! New and returning students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor.

Jedi Master Engineering using LEGO®

The Force Awakens in this advanced engineering course for young Jedi! Discover key engineering concepts such as gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics, and eccentric motion. Build LEGO X-Wings, AT-AT walkers, Pod Racers, Star Destroyers, Cloud Cities, Settlements, Fortresses, and other complex machines and structures from a galaxy far, far away.

Jedi Engineering using LEGO®

The Force Awakens in this introductory engineering course for young Jedi!  Explore engineering principles by  designing and building projects such as LEGO® X-Wings, R2 Units, Energy Catapults, Defense Turrets, and Settlements  from a galaxy far, far away. Create motorized and architectural projects with imagination and engineering to defeat  the Empire!

Minecraft Engineering using LEGO®

Bring Minecraft to life using tens of thousands of LEGO®! Build engineer-designed projects such as a motorized Creeper, a portal to the Nether, and a moving Minecart! Create your favorite Minecraft objects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Whether you are new to Minecraft and LEGO or a seasoned veteran, you'll be hooked on the endless creative possibilities.

Minecraft Master Engineering using LEGO®

Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO! Build a walking Creeper, a terrifying Ghast, and a motorized Minecart! This project-based course, designed by Play-Well instructors, combines the basic format of our core engineering-themed programs based on the world of Minecraft. Students will explore real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture while building their favorite Minecraft objects. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO.
