YMCA Initiatives

  • Our theme of “Building the Great Community” means that the YMCA of the East Bay shall be a catalyst for community development.  We will initiate, facilitate, and promote harmonious relations between the diverse members of our local branches.  We will also enhance the quality of life of the community with appropriate health, educational, spiritual, and cultural programs.
  • Our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility are integrated into every YMCA program—be it day camp, our gym classes, childcare, or aquatics.  These values are the foundation of promoting cultural harmony.

YMCA Partnerships

  • PACT: Global Youth Leadership Summit in Croatia.
  • deYoung Museum, hosting and honoring the ladies of Gee’s Bend, Alabama in their tour of the Bay Area.  An educational and historical exhibit of quilts is now showing at the museum.

Other Resources

  • YMCA Middle East Relief Campaign is sponsored by YMCA of the USA.  To support those affected by the recent hostilities, three YMCAs in the region – the YMCA of Lebanon, Jerusalem International YMCA and the East Jerusalem YMCA – stand together to rebuild the region and support its people. Although each may primarily serve different cultures at the community level, the collaboration demonstrates the YMCA commitment to providing service and support to all people, especially in times of great need.
  • United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO): Culture
  • Oakland’s Calendar of Events, from the Oakland Convention and Visitors Bureau
